GK Nihei was last season's MVP
HC Nikko Icebucks Have to Do More With Less
This Season: Nikko has had to play without any foreign players because of their dire financial situation. As a club team, the Icebucks do not have one big sponsor like other teams. Still, they have pulled off some upsets and rarely have been out of a game thanks to the standout play of GK Hashimoto. Hashimoto came back from a year absence after playing with the no defunct Sapporo Polaris. He replaced the Icebucks star goalie Haruna, who went to the US to play for the Quad City Mallards of the UHL.

Last Season: The Icebucks once again came in last in the league failing to make the playoffs. They did however start out string and have their moments. Their star Mark Kaufman was limited by inuries and this hampered their already thin line-up. Coach Mahone did an exceptional job getting the most out of a limited line-up.
One of the many loyal Nikko fans.
Although the Nikko Icebucks started in 1999 they rose up from the ashes of the Furukawa Denko team which folded due to a lack of sponsorship in 1998. Furukawa Denko had a history going back to 1926. Both Furukawa Denko and Nikko has a history of two things- losing and great fans. No matter how many years Nikko finishes out of the playoffs their fans show up and continue to be the most suportive in the JIHL.
