New
Kokudo Team Continues Winning Tradition
This
Year: This year Kokudo was reborn because
of the folding of Seibu. With the folding of their
long time rival, Seibu, Kokudo absorbed 20 new members
from Seibu and lost several members of their championship
team to the Cranes. It took a while for the new
team to learn how to play as one but when they finally
did they showed the strength of the members that
made up the no. 1 and 2 team of last season. Kokudo
won the first stage title of the JIHL season and
are contending for the Asia league title. If there
is any problem is that they are too deep and too
strong.
Last Season: Kokudo finished a
disappointing 4th in the regualr season but rebounded
for a dramatic title run that saw tehm defeat their
rivals Seibu one last time in five games. Kokudo
also defeated the Seibu Bears in the All-Japan tournament
to take both championships of the year. |

Star
GK Iwasaki retired last season. |
Kokudo
originally broke off from Seibu Tetsudo in 1972.
With their bright yellow and blue bunny jersey Kokudo
established a record as one of the best teams in
Japan. In the last 11 years Kokudo has been the
class of the league winning 8 championships including
the last 3 in a row. the team has been an excellent
mix of foreign stars, naturalized Japanese and Japanese
players. Now Kokudo starts a new chapter with the
joining of 20 Seibu players, the retiring of former
stars, new uniforms, and the leaving of major players
to the Cranes. Still with all these changes Kokudo
is still winning and will continue to do so. |
